Fun science experiments for primary aged children

This time of year is full of learning opportunities for young children. Who doesn't love getting outside and exploring nature? Learning all about plants and growing is one of my favourite topics to explore with children. If you are learning about the different parts of plants you MUST carry out the food dye experiment! Simply put a stick of celery (with the leaves still attached) or some white flowers (carnations work brilliantly and you can normally find some of these in a supermarket bouquet) in jar of water and add some food colouring. Mark the level of the coloured water. Within several hours you should see the flowers beginning to change colour. Clearly showing children how water is transported through the plant via the stem. So much fun! Extra tip...blue food dye normally works the best. #plants #plantsks1 #plantsks2
