Algorithms

An algorithm is a precise set of instructions for completing a task.

There are many fun ways that you can teach young children about the importance of instructions being in the correct order. (Just like an algorithm.) This is the beginning of coding.

One of my favourite ways of teaching this in the autumn term involves collecting autumn leaves and making a leaf hedgehog. Children love it!

Give your students a hedgehog template.

Colour in the body of the hedgehog.

Go outside and collect some leaves.

Come back inside and cover the hedgehog with glue.

Stick the leaves onto the glue to make the spikes.

Give each student an activity sheet.

Are the instructions in the correct order?

no. Students to write/draw the instructions in the correct order.
