10 Hibernating Activities

Teach children all about hibernating animals as part of your autumn topic. They will love it! Here are some ideas to get you going. (Don't forget to download your freebie at the bottom of the page.)


1. Make dens in the classroom, under tables, using blankets and cushions.

2. Make a den outside, using natural materials, for a favourite toy.

3. Have a small world tuff tray using natural materials and small world animals.

4. Freeze some small animals in ice cubes.

5. Make a clay hedgehog with twigs for spines.

6. Sort animals into those that hibernate above ground and below ground.

7. Match paw prints to animals.

8. Make a leaf hedgehog.

9. Paint an upturned paper bowl and turn it into a cave.

10. Make a natural materials collage and add pictures of hibernating animals.
